Description
The Brahma 18209121 is a flame sensor of the photocell type, designed for use in gas burner control systems. It detects the light emitted by a flame and converts it into an electrical signal, confirming combustion during the burner start sequence. This model is identified by SKU 18209121 and is manufactured by Brahma.
Choosing and fitting
When selecting a replacement photocell of this kind, ensure the detection principle, spectral range, response time, and mounting sleeve type match the existing installation. The cable length and connector configuration must also be compatible to avoid retrofit issues. Verify that the new unit has the same sensitivity to the flame's light spectrum to prevent nuisance lockouts or failure to detect a weak flame.
Signs of failure
Common failure modes for photocells of this type include a contaminated or scratched viewing window, an aged photocell producing a weakened signal, or a broken lead sheath. When these occur, the burner control may not receive a signal within the safety time, leading to a lockout. Check the viewing window for cleanliness and damage, and test the photocell's output to ensure it is within the expected range.
