Description

This Honeywell gas valve (SKU VCZMG6000/U) is a component for shutting off and metering the gas supply to a burner. It is designed for safe regulation and shut-off of gas supply in gas boilers, burners and engineering systems. In a typical burner system, the valve opens on command from the burner control, and only when the gas pressure switch confirms that the supply pressure is within safe limits. The valve works in conjunction with the burner control, gas pressure switch, and gas filter. Its coil receives power from the control during the ignition and running phases.

Choosing and fitting

When replacing a gas valve of this type, selection is based on brand and series, connection size (typically Rp 1/2" to 2" or flanged), coil voltage (often 230 V or 24 V ac/dc), and function. Common variants include single or double solenoid, slow-opening, servo-regulated, or multiblock units that integrate a filter and pressure regulator. Confirm that the new unit matches the required connection size, voltage, and control function. Also check the gas pressure switch setting and the burner control compatibility, as these are interdependent.

Signs of failure

Typical failure modes for this type of gas valve include coil burnout (the coil is often replaceable separately from the valve body), leaking seat, drifting outlet pressure, and a seized servo regulator. With a burned coil, the valve fails to open and the burner will not start or drops out during operation. A leaking seat may let gas pass when the valve is closed. A seized servo regulator can cause incorrect gas flow or unstable combustion. Check the coil continuity, inspect the seat, and compare outlet pressure to the rated value.
