Description

This Kromschroder ionisation electrode rod, SKU 74450311, is a replacement part for the ZKIHL200 pilot burner. It detects the presence of flame by conducting a small rectified current through the flame between the electrode and the burner ground. The burner control interprets this current as proof of flame and shuts down the fuel supply if the signal is lost. The electrode is exposed to high temperature and combustion by-products and is a consumable part.

Choosing and fitting

Electrodes of this type are selected by matching their physical dimensions: rod length, bend angle, insulator diameter, and the gap between the electrode tip and the earthed burner component. They must also fit the specific burner head and mounting flange or bracket. Before ordering, measure these dimensions on the existing electrode or the burner head, and verify that the terminal connection matches the ignition cable from the transformer.

Signs of failure

Ionisation electrodes degrade over time due to high temperature and combustion by-products. Common failure signs include a cracked or sooted ceramic insulator, a worn or eroded tip, and a displaced gap. Such damage can cause ignition failures or spurious flame loss during operation, prompting the burner control to shut down the fuel supply. Inspect the electrode for these signs and replace it if damaged.
