Description
This universal thermocouple, from Honeywell's Q370A line, is designed for atmospheric gas appliances. With a length of 900 mm, it generates a millivolt signal from flame heat that holds the safety valve open. The signal type is millivolt, and the manufacturer code is q370a1014. Its universal design allows it to serve as a direct replacement in many applications.
Choosing and fitting
Parts of this type are selected by matching length, the type of connection to the gas valve (threaded or push-in), and the diameter or sheath material. The signal strength must match the valve's requirement, and the mounting sleeve or bracket must fit the existing burner. Before ordering, measure the old thermocouple's length and connector type, and ensure the flame impinges on the correct part of the tip.
Signs of failure
In this kind of thermocouple, contamination or a bent sheath can weaken the millivolt signal, causing the safety valve to close even though the flame is present. The equipment may fail to keep the burner lit or require holding the reset button for a long time. Check the tip for soot, corrosion, or bending, and verify the signal with a multimeter while the flame is heating it.
