When selecting a replacement oil nozzle, three parameters from the burner data plate must match: flow rate at the reference pressure (in gph or kg/h), spray angle (typically 30 to 80 degrees), and spray pattern (hollow, solid, or semi-solid). The nozzle is mounted on a thread at the end of the blast tube, downstream of the oil pump and solenoid valve. Ensure the thread type and size are compatible with the burner. A nozzle with the correct rating but wrong pattern can cause sooting, pulsation, or unstable ignition, so all three parameters must correspond exactly.

Signs of failure

Worn or clogged oil nozzles can cause incomplete combustion, leading to soot buildup on the heat exchanger and flue. The burner may exhibit pulsation, unstable ignition, or a yellow, smoky flame. Reduced atomization quality can result in fuel droplets not burning completely, increasing fuel consumption and emissions. Regular inspection and replacement of the nozzle when worn are necessary to maintain proper combustion.
