The spray angle typically ranges from 30 to 80 degrees; the correct angle ensures the flame does not impinge on the combustion chamber walls or the blast tube. The pattern (hollow, solid, or semi-solid) controls fuel droplet distribution across the flame front. Consider the nozzle thread size (most commonly 1/8 in. BSP or NPT) and the oil pump pressure rating, as flow is rated at a specific pressure (usually 100 psi or 7 bar for domestic burners). Always replace with a nozzle of identical rating, angle, and pattern.

Signs of failure

A dirty or worn oil nozzle causes incomplete combustion, increased flue gas temperature, and carbon buildup on ignition electrodes. Symptoms include sooting, pulsation, hard ignition, or unstable flame holding. Inspect the nozzle screen (integral strainer) for blockages before installation.
