Description
The Delavan P060-70W1 is an oil nozzle with a rated flow rate of 0.6 GPH, a 70° spray angle and a W spray pattern. It is used to atomise fuel oil in a burner, producing the spray that is mixed with combustion air at the burner head. The 0.6 GPH rating defines the volume of oil passed per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure, while the 70° angle sets how wide the spray cone opens into the combustion chamber. The W pattern denotes a solid, wide spray distribution. The nozzle is a wear part and is matched to the burner's rated input and firing chamber geometry.

Choosing and fitting
Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's rated input and combustion chamber, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ between nozzle families, so the thread size, seating face and overall length must be compared with the old part before ordering. The rated flow rate is quoted at a specific oil pressure, so the pump pressure setting must correspond to the nozzle rating. The spray pattern letter and angle must be reproduced exactly, since a different pattern changes the flame shape.
Signs of failure
Nozzles of this kind fail through orifice wear, which raises the actual flow rate and can produce a long, smoky or sooty flame, and through clogging or coking, which reduces flow and causes pulsation, delayed ignition or flame failure. A worn or partially blocked nozzle often shows an uneven spray, dark exhaust, carbon build-up on the burner head or difficulty holding a stable flame. Checks include the pump pressure, the spray pattern on a test sheet, the nozzle strainer, and comparison of the measured flow against the rated value.
