Description

The Steinen Oil nozzle 30.00GPH / 45SS is an oil burner nozzle with a flow rate of 30 GPH, a 45 ° spray angle and an SS spray pattern. It atomises fuel oil into a spray that the burner mixes with air and ignites. The 45 ° angle sets how wide the spray is thrown from the nozzle orifice. The SS pattern denotes a solid spray cone. It is a replacement part for oil-fired burners and boilers that take this nozzle size and pattern.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Mounting forms differ by thread size and by the length and shape of the nozzle body, so the old nozzle is compared against the replacement before ordering. The nozzle seats on the adapter face, so the seat and the adapter screen are checked and the nozzle is tightened to the torque given for the burner, without sealing compound on the seat.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind usually fail by orifice wear, which raises the actual flow rate, or by clogging and coking of the orifice and screen, which distorts or blocks the spray. On the equipment this shows as a smoky flame, unstable ignition, pulsation, a rise or fall in stack temperature, or soot on the boiler surfaces. Checks are made on the spray pattern, the pump pressure, the electrode setting and the condition of the nozzle screen and adapter.
