Flow rate

0.4 GPH

Spray angle

80 °

Spray pattern

Description

This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a 0.4 GPH flow rate, an 80° spray angle, and an R spray pattern. It is used to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 0.4 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 80° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the R pattern denotes a solid cone spray shape.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and mounting form to the nozzle adapter. Common mounting forms include threaded bodies in various sizes, and the seat and thread must match the adapter in the burner. Before ordering, compare the existing nozzle's markings and measure the thread and overall length against the replacement.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a distorted spray pattern. When this happens, the burner may show a weak or uneven flame, delayed ignition, sooting, or a rise in flue gas temperature. Check the nozzle for blockage, wear, and spray shape, and verify the pump pressure and filtration before replacing it.
