Description

This is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 1.65 GPH, a 60 ° spray angle and an R spray pattern. It is used to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 60 ° angle defines the cone width of the spray leaving the nozzle. The R pattern denotes a solid or semi-solid spray cone rather than a hollow one. Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Mounting forms differ mainly in thread size and body length, so the thread and the seat in the adapter must be compared before ordering. The rated flow is stated at a reference pressure, so the pump pressure setting must correspond to that reference for the flow to be correct.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging of the internal passages or by wear of the metering orifice, which widens over time. A clogged nozzle gives a distorted or pulsating flame, delayed ignition or a smoky exhaust, while a worn one raises flow and can produce an overlong flame and soot. Check the flame shape, the combustion readings and the nozzle strainer, and replace the nozzle if the spray pattern is uneven or the flow no longer matches the specification.
