Flow rate

3 GPH

Spray angle

45 °

Spray pattern

PLP

Description

This is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 3 GPH, a 45 ° spray angle, and a PLP spray pattern. It is used to atomise fuel oil into a spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 45 ° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the PLP pattern defines the shape of the spray. The 3 GPH figure states the volume of oil the nozzle passes per hour at its rated pressure.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the mounting thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Before ordering, compare the marking on the old nozzle with the required specification and check the seat and thread for damage. The nozzle is fitted to the adapter with the correct tightening torque, and the electrode gap and position are set afterwards.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging of the internal filter or orifice, by wear that increases the flow rate, or by a distorted spray pattern. The equipment then shows a poor flame shape, delayed ignition, pulsation, soot deposits, or a rise in flue gas temperature. Check the nozzle strainer, the spray pattern on a test stand, and the pump pressure before replacing the nozzle.
