Description

This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a 6.00 GPH flow rate, a 45° spray angle, and a PLP spray pattern. It is used in oil burners to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion. The 6 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the rated pressure. The 45° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the PLP pattern describes the shape of the spray as it leaves the nozzle.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification. The mounting thread and the nozzle body length must also match the nozzle adapter or burner head. Before ordering, compare the existing nozzle's markings and dimensions with the replacement, and check that the electrode position and the nozzle seat are clean and undamaged.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a distorted spray pattern. When this happens, the burner may produce a smoky flame, fail to ignite, pulsate, or run with an unstable flame. Check the nozzle for blockage, wear, and spray shape, and replace it if the pattern is uneven or the flow rate no longer matches the specification.
