Description

The Monarch 100.00GPH / 80PLP is an oil nozzle for oil-fired burners and boilers. It delivers a flow rate of 100 GPH through an 80 ° spray angle in a PLP spray pattern. The nozzle atomises fuel oil into a fine spray so it can be mixed with air and burned in the combustion chamber. Its 80 ° angle and PLP pattern determine how the spray is distributed inside the burner's blast tube.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's rated input and combustion chamber geometry. The mounting form must also match: the nozzle body, thread and seat have to fit the burner's nozzle adapter or line assembly. Before ordering, compare the markings on the old nozzle and measure or verify the flow rate, angle and pattern against the burner manufacturer's specification. The pump pressure the nozzle is rated for must also correspond to the pressure at which the burner is set to run.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging or by wear of the orifice, which changes the flow rate and spray shape. When this happens the burner may show a weak, pulsating or uneven flame, delayed ignition, sooting, or a rise in flue gas CO and smoke. A partially blocked or worn nozzle can also cause the flame to impinge on the chamber walls or the burner to lock out. Check the nozzle for dirt, damage and correct spray pattern, and verify pump pressure and filtration before replacing it.
