Specifications

Description

This is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 3 GPH, a 45 ° spray angle and an R spray pattern. It is used to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 3 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 45 ° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the R pattern defines the shape of the spray as it leaves the orifice.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Mounting forms differ between manufacturers and burner models, so the thread size, seating face and overall length must be compared with the old part before ordering. The rated pressure at which the flow rate is specified must also match the pump setting of the equipment.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging of the orifice or by wear that enlarges it, which changes the flow rate and the spray shape. The equipment may then show a weak, smoky or unstable flame, difficulty in ignition, or soot deposits on the combustion head. Checking the spray pattern, the flow rate and the strainer, and comparing them with the specified values, shows whether the nozzle needs replacement.
