Description

This is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 1.25 GPH, a spray angle of 80 °, and an R spray pattern. It is used in oil burners to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion. The 1.25 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the rated pressure. The 80 ° spray angle determines the width of the cone formed by the atomised oil. The R pattern denotes a solid or semi-solid spray distribution.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification. The mounting thread and the length of the nozzle body must match the nozzle adapter or burner blast tube. Before ordering, compare the existing nozzle's markings and physical dimensions with the replacement. The rated pressure at which the flow rate is specified must also correspond to the pump setting.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind can become clogged with fuel deposits or wear at the orifice, which changes the spray pattern and flow rate. When this happens, the burner may produce a smoky flame, fail to ignite, or run erratically. A distorted or dripping spray can also cause delayed ignition or pulsating combustion. Checking the nozzle involves inspecting the spray pattern and comparing the flow rate against the rated value.
