Description

This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a flow rate of 1.2 GPH, a 45 ° spray angle and an R spray pattern. It is used in oil burners to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion. The 1.2 GPH rating defines the volume of oil the nozzle passes per hour at the rated pressure. The 45 ° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the R pattern denotes a solid or semi-solid spray shape. It is a replacement component for burners that specify this flow rate, angle and pattern.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification. The mounting form must also match: the nozzle body, thread and seat must fit the burner's nozzle adapter or holder. Before ordering, compare the existing nozzle's markings and dimensions with the replacement, and check that the pump pressure and filtration suit the rated flow. The spray angle and pattern must be correct for the combustion chamber shape and the burner's air pattern.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a distorted spray pattern. When this happens the burner may produce a smoky flame, delayed ignition, pulsation, or a failure to fire at all. Fuel pressure may read normal while the actual flow is low or uneven. Check the nozzle for blockage, damage to the orifice, and correct spray shape, and compare the flow rate and pattern with the burner specification.
