Description

The Monarch Oil nozzle 5.50GPH / 45PLP is an oil burner nozzle with a flow rate of 5.5 GPH, a 45 ° spray angle, and a PLP spray pattern. It atomises fuel oil into a spray for combustion in an oil-fired burner or boiler. The 5.5 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 45 ° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the PLP pattern defines the spray's shape and distribution.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Mounting forms differ by thread size and body length, so the existing nozzle and the adapter seat must be compared before ordering. The nozzle seat and the adapter face must be clean and undamaged, and the nozzle must be tightened to the torque specified for the burner without deforming the seat.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail through clogging of the internal passages or the orifice, wear of the orifice that increases flow, or a damaged seat that causes leakage. On the equipment this appears as poor combustion, smoke, soot deposits, a unstable flame, or a failure to ignite. Checks include the nozzle strainer, the spray pattern on a test stand, and the seat and adapter for damage or leakage.
