Description

This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a 0.65 GPH flow rate, an 80° spray angle, and an R spray pattern. It atomises fuel oil into a cone-shaped spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 0.65 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 80° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the R pattern denotes a solid cone spray. It is an oil nozzle in the spare parts catalogue under SKU 0.65GPH / 80R.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Mounting forms vary by manufacturer and burner series, so the thread size, seating face, and overall length must be compared with the old nozzle before ordering. The flow rate, angle, and pattern markings on the replacement must correspond to the burner manufacturer's specification. The nozzle is fitted into the nozzle adapter or nozzle line assembly, tightened to the torque specified for the burner, and the electrode settings are checked afterwards.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging of the internal passages or the orifice, by wear that enlarges the orifice and increases flow, or by a distorted spray pattern from deposits or damage. On the equipment this appears as poor combustion, smoke, soot, a pulsating or unstable flame, delayed ignition, or a failure to fire. The nozzle strainer and the nozzle itself should be checked, and the spray pattern and flow rate compared against specification.
