Description

This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a 2 GPH flow rate, a 45° spray angle, and an R spray pattern. It is used to atomize fuel oil in a burner, producing a cone-shaped spray for combustion. The 2 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 45° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the R pattern denotes a solid or semi-solid spray distribution. It is a replacement component for oil-fired heating equipment that requires this specific flow, angle, and pattern combination.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification. The mounting form must also match: most oil nozzles use a standard threaded body, but the thread size and seating face can vary between burner models. Before ordering, compare the old nozzle's stamped flow rate, angle, and pattern, and check the thread and body length against the burner's nozzle adapter. The pump pressure and electrode position should be verified after installation, as they affect atomization and ignition.

Signs of failure

Oil nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a damaged spray pattern. When this happens, the burner may produce a smoky flame, delayed ignition, rumbling, or a noticeable drop in heat output. A clogged or worn nozzle can also cause erratic flame shape or incomplete combustion, leading to soot buildup on the heat exchanger. Check the nozzle for debris, wear, and correct spray pattern, and compare the flame appearance against the burner's normal operating condition.
