Description
This is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 0.5 GPH, a 60 ° spray angle and an R spray pattern. It is used to atomise fuel oil in a burner, producing the spray that is mixed with air and ignited. The 0.5 GPH rating defines the volume of oil passed per hour at the reference pressure. The 60 ° angle sets how wide the cone of spray is spread. The R pattern defines the shape of the spray distribution within that cone.

Choosing and fitting
Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner and its combustion chamber. The mounting form and thread must match the nozzle adapter or holder on the burner, and the seating face must be clean and undamaged before the part is fitted. Before ordering, compare the markings on the old nozzle with the required flow rate, angle and pattern, and check that the electrode position and blast tube dimensions are not disturbed during replacement.
Signs of failure
Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by partial or total blockage of the internal passages, by wear of the metering orifice, or by leakage at the seat. On the equipment this appears as a weak, distorted or pulsating flame, delayed ignition, soot deposits, or a burner that locks out on flame failure. Check the nozzle strainer and the fuel filter for contamination, inspect the spray pattern on a test stand, and compare the firing rate against the burner settings before replacing the part.
