Description
This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a flow rate of 24 GPH, a 45° spray angle, and a PLP spray pattern. It is used in oil-fired burners and boilers to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion. The 24 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 45° spray angle determines the width of the conical spray leaving the nozzle. The PLP spray pattern describes the distribution of oil droplets within that cone.

Choosing and fitting
Oil nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification. The mounting thread and nozzle body dimensions must also match the burner's nozzle adapter. Before ordering, compare the existing nozzle's stamping or the burner's technical data to the required flow rate, angle, and pattern. Installation requires shutting off the fuel supply, removing the old nozzle, and fitting the replacement without overtightening, then checking for leaks after restart.
Signs of failure
Oil nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a damaged spray pattern. When this happens, the burner may produce a smoky flame, delayed ignition, pulsating combustion, or a noticeable drop in heat output. The spray can become uneven or the flow rate can change, leading to poor combustion efficiency. Check the nozzle for debris, wear, and correct spray shape, and compare the flow rate against the burner's specification.
