Specifications

Description

This is a Monarch oil nozzle with a flow rate of 17 GPH, a 45° spray angle, and a PLP spray pattern. It is used in oil-fired burners and boilers to atomise fuel oil into a fine spray for combustion. The 17 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 45° angle sets the width of the spray cone, and the PLP pattern describes the shape of the spray as it leaves the nozzle.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner manufacturer's specification. The mounting form must also match: the nozzle body, thread, and seat must fit the nozzle adapter or burner head without modification. Before ordering, compare the existing nozzle's markings and physical dimensions with the replacement, and verify the pump pressure the burner is set to, since flow rate depends on it.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a distorted spray pattern. When this happens, the burner may produce a smoky flame, fail to ignite, pulsate, or run with an unstable fire. Check the nozzle for blockage or wear, compare the spray pattern against the specified angle and pattern, and confirm the pump pressure before replacing it.
