Description

This is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 5.5 GPH, a 60 ° spray angle and an HO spray pattern. It is fitted to an oil burner, where it atomises the fuel into a spray that is mixed with air and ignited. The 5.5 GPH rating sets the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle adapter. Mounting forms differ between manufacturers and burner series, so the thread size and the length and shape of the body must be compared with the part being replaced before ordering. The nozzle seats against the adapter, and the mating face and any gasket or seal must be clean and undamaged when it is fitted.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail through blockage of the internal passages or wear of the orifice, which changes the flow rate and the shape of the spray. On the equipment this appears as poor combustion, smoke, soot deposits, an unstable flame or failure to ignite. Checking the spray pattern, the flow rate and the condition of the nozzle seat is the usual way to confirm whether the nozzle is the cause.
