Description

The Danfoss 030B0109 is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 1.25 GPH, a 60 ° spray angle and a B spray pattern. It is fitted to an oil burner, where it atomises the fuel into a spray that is mixed with air and burned. The 1.25 GPH figure defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 60 ° angle sets how wide the spray cone opens from the nozzle orifice. The B pattern denotes the distribution of droplets within that cone.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner and combustion chamber, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ in thread size, body length and sealing face, so the old nozzle is compared with the replacement before ordering. The nozzle seat and the electrode position are checked, and the nozzle is tightened to the torque given for the holder without distorting the body.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind usually fail by clogging of the orifice or by wear of the internal passages, which changes the spray shape and the delivered flow. The equipment then shows a poor flame, smoke, soot deposits, a rough or pulsating burn, or failure to ignite. The spray pattern and the flow rate are checked against the specification, and the nozzle strainer and the oil supply are inspected before the nozzle is replaced.
