Description

This is a Danfoss oil nozzle with a 0.6 GPH flow rate, a 30 ° spray angle and an S spray pattern. It atomises fuel oil into a cone-shaped spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 0.6 GPH rating defines the volume of oil passed per hour at the nozzle's rated pressure. The 30 ° angle sets how wide the spray cone opens from the nozzle outlet. The S pattern denotes a solid, full-cone spray distribution.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner and combustion chamber, and by matching the thread and seat form to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ mainly in thread size and sealing face, so the holder and the old nozzle must be compared before ordering. The nozzle seat and the mating face in the holder must be clean and undamaged, since the seal is made metal to metal at the seat. Tighten only to the torque stated for the holder, as over-tightening deforms the seat.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging of the internal filter or the orifice, by wear that enlarges the orifice and raises flow rate, or by a distorted spray pattern from a damaged seat or tip. On the equipment this shows as rough or unstable combustion, smoke, soot deposits, a flame that flickers or lifts, or a burner that fails to ignite reliably. Check the nozzle strainer, the spray pattern on a test stand, and the seat face in the holder before replacing.
