Description

This item is a Danfoss oil nozzle with a rated flow rate of 0.85 GPH, a 60° spray angle and an SR spray pattern. It is used in oil-fired burners and boilers to atomise the fuel supply into a spray suitable for combustion. The 0.85 GPH figure defines the nozzle's flow capacity, while the 60° angle sets the width of the spray cone. The SR pattern designation describes the shape of the spray as produced by this nozzle. It is identified by the SKU 030F7918.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and mounting form to the nozzle holder. Before ordering, compare the markings on the existing nozzle with the required specification, and check the seat and thread in the holder for damage or wear. The nozzle is fitted with the correct wrench on the flats, without distorting the body, and the electrode gap and position are checked afterwards. Any gasket or seal at the holder must be renewed as specified for the burner.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail through blockage of the internal passages or the orifice by dirt, and through wear of the orifice, which alters the flow rate and spray shape. On the equipment this shows as poor combustion, smoke, soot deposits, an unstable or pulsating flame, or failure to ignite. A worn or partially blocked nozzle can also cause a rise in fuel consumption or a flame that no longer matches the burner's settings. When these signs appear, the nozzle is checked and compared against its rated flow rate, spray angle and pattern, and the fuel filter and line are inspected for contamination.
