Description

The Danfoss 030H8138 is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 2.75 GPH, a spray angle of 80°, and an H spray pattern. It atomises fuel oil into a cone-shaped spray for combustion in an oil burner. The 80° angle and H pattern determine the shape and distribution of that spray inside the combustion chamber. The 2.75 GPH rating states the volume of oil the nozzle passes per hour at its rated pressure.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner and combustion chamber, and by matching the thread and body dimensions to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ mainly in thread type and body length, so the old nozzle is removed and its markings and dimensions compared with the replacement before ordering. The nozzle seat and the mating face in the holder must be clean and undamaged, and the nozzle is tightened to the torque specified for the burner, without sealing compound on the seat.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail through clogging of the internal filter or orifice, wear of the orifice enlarging the flow rate, or a distorted spray pattern from deposits or damage. On the equipment this appears as rough or delayed ignition, pulsating or smoky combustion, a changed flame shape, or soot build-up on the combustion head and electrodes. Checks include the nozzle strainer and orifice, the spray pattern on a test stand, the pump pressure, and the condition of the electrodes and combustion head.
