Description

The Danfoss 030B0114 is an oil nozzle with a flow rate of 2.25 GPH, a 60 ° spray angle and a B spray pattern. It atomises fuel oil into a cone-shaped spray that the burner mixes with air and ignites. The 60 ° angle sets how wide that cone opens from the nozzle orifice. The B pattern denotes a solid spray cone, as opposed to a hollow one. The 2.25 GPH figure is the nominal flow the nozzle passes at its rated pressure.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's rated input and combustion chamber geometry, and by matching the thread and body dimensions to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ mainly in thread size and in whether the nozzle seats on a flat face or a taper, so the old nozzle is compared against the replacement before ordering. The pump pressure the burner is set to must correspond to the pressure at which the required flow rate is obtained. Spray angle and pattern are chosen for the shape of the combustion chamber, not for the nozzle alone.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind fail mainly by clogging of the orifice and internal passages, by wear of the orifice enlarging it, or by leakage past the seat. A clogged or worn nozzle shows up as a distorted or uneven flame, delayed ignition, pulsation, soot deposits or a rise in flue gas readings, and the burner may lock out. Checks are made on the flame shape, the nozzle strainer, the pump pressure and the electrode settings before the nozzle is replaced.
