Description

This is a Danfoss oil nozzle with a flow rate of 2.5 GPH, a 30 ° spray angle and an S spray pattern. It is a replacement part for oil-fired burners and boilers, where it atomises the fuel into a fine spray for combustion. The 2.5 GPH rating defines the volume of oil delivered per hour at the rated pressure. The 30 ° angle sets how wide the cone of atomised oil spreads from the nozzle. The S pattern denotes the solid cone form of that spray.

Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ between nozzle families, so the seat, thread and overall length must be compared with the part being replaced before ordering. The rated pressure at which the flow rate is specified must also correspond to the pump setting on the equipment.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail through clogging of the internal passages or wear of the orifice, which changes the spray shape and the delivered flow rate. On the equipment this appears as a poor or unstable flame, delayed ignition, sooting, or a rise in flue gas readings. Checking the spray pattern, the flow rate and the condition of the nozzle seat is the usual first step when these signs appear.
