Description

Choosing and fitting
Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner and combustion chamber, and by matching the thread and body form to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ by thread size and by the length and shape of the body, so the old nozzle is compared with the replacement before ordering. The nozzle seat and the holder are checked for damage and cleanliness, and the nozzle is tightened to the torque given by the burner maker. The electrode position and the distance to the nozzle are set as specified for the burner after replacement.
Signs of failure
Nozzles of this kind fail by clogging of the internal passages and the orifice, by wear of the orifice that raises the flow rate, and by a distorted or asymmetrical spray. The equipment then shows a poor flame shape, pulsation, soot, odour, failure to ignite or a flame that drops out shortly after start. The spray is checked for shape and symmetry, the flow rate is compared with the rated value, and the nozzle strainer and the oil filter are inspected for contamination.
