Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by matching the thread and body dimensions to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ between nozzle families, so the seat, thread size and overall length must be compared with the old part before ordering. The nozzle is fitted into the holder with the correct seating torque and the electrode gap and position are checked afterwards.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail by clogging, wear of the orifice, or a distorted spray pattern, which shows as rough starting, pulsating combustion, soot deposits or a smoky flame. A worn or blocked nozzle can also cause a drop in heat output or an unstable flame that the control box shuts down. When these signs appear, the nozzle is checked for blockage and spray shape, and the fuel pressure and filter are inspected at the same time.
