Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this kind are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner's requirements, and by confirming the thread and mounting form suit the nozzle holder. Before ordering, compare the marking on the existing nozzle with the required specification, and check that the seat and the mating face in the holder are clean and undamaged. The nozzle is fitted finger-tight and then tightened to the holder manufacturer's specified torque, without using sealing compound on the seat.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind commonly fail through blockage of the internal filter or the orifice, wear of the metering passages, or leakage at the seat. On the equipment this appears as a weak, pulsating, or asymmetrical flame, delayed ignition, soot deposits, or a rise in flue gas temperature. Checks include the spray pattern on a test stand, the condition of the filter, and the tightness of the seat in the holder.
