Choosing and fitting

Nozzles of this type are selected by matching the flow rate, spray angle, and spray pattern to the burner and combustion chamber, and by matching the thread and seat to the nozzle holder. Mounting forms differ mainly in the thread and the sealing face, so the holder must be checked before ordering. The nozzle is seated on its face and tightened to the torque given for the burner, and the electrode gap and position are set afterwards.

Signs of failure

Nozzles of this kind usually fail by clogging or by wear of the orifice, which changes the flow rate and the spray shape. The equipment then shows a poor flame, delayed ignition, soot, or a rise in flue gas temperature. Checking the spray pattern, the flow rate, and the strainer, and comparing the nozzle with the burner specification, is the usual procedure.
